The varsity baseball Owls competed in the TSSAA DII-AA State Tournament over the weekend in Chattanooga, facing McCallie in a best-of-three series.Â
In Game 1 on Friday, the Owls were edged in a 3-1 pitcher's duel. Junior Matthew Ray led MUS offensively with two hits, while the Owls totaled seven hits in the contest. Senior Henry Moak delivered a strong start on the mound, striking out five over 3.2 innings as both teams battled in a low-scoring game.
In Game 2 on Saturday, McCallie used a big third inning to pull away in a 12-2 victory. The Owls briefly tied the game early, as senior Reid McKnett drove in a run with a sacrifice fly in the first inning. Moak and senior Carter Sayle each added hits offensively, while McKnett and sophomore Haynes Kiser each recorded an RBI.
Junior Doug Suddarth started on the mound for MUS, while the Owls continued to play clean defensively, finishing the game without an error.
Across both games, MUS showed resilience against a strong McCallie team as their postseason run came to a close.
