The varsity baseball Owls (11-17) dropped a close 5-4 contest to Arlington on Tuesday.
Arlington jumped out to an early lead with runs in the first and second innings, including a solo home run that made it 2-0. The Tigers extended their advantage later in the game, building a lead the Owls would ultimately fall just short of overcoming.
MUS continued to battle throughout and made things interesting late, but the comeback bid came up one run short.
Junior Matthew Ray led the Owls offensively with a strong 3-for-4 performance at the plate. Senior Carter Sayle, Ray, and senior Gray Nevels each drove in a run, while junior Foster Flaherty showed patience at the plate with four walks. As a team, MUS drew nine walks on the night.
On the mound, junior Doug Suddarth worked six innings, allowing five runs (three earned) while striking out one. The Owls also turned a double play defensively.
The team will look to bounce back on Thursday as they travel to ECS.
