The varsity baseball Owls (8-13) suffered a tough 3-2 loss to region opponent Briarcrest yesterday, as the Saints scored three runs in the bottom of the seventh to secure a walk-off victory.
The Owls took an early lead in the third inning when senior Carter Sayle delivered an RBI single to put MUS on the board. MUS carried that advantage deep into the game behind a dominant start on the mound from junior Doug Suddarth.
Suddarth was outstanding, tossing six scoreless innings while striking out nine and allowing just three hits. Briarcrest was held in check until the final inning, when the Saints rallied to score three runs and complete the comeback.
Offensively, Sayle, junior Matthew Ray, and senior Gray Nevels each recorded a hit for the Owls. Sayle and Ray each drove in a run in the contest. Defensively, MUS was flawless, committing no errors, with Nevels leading the way with 10 chances.
The Owls will look to bounce back on Thursday as they return home to face FACS.
