The varsity baseball Owls (9-13) used a pair of big innings to power past FACS, 14-7, on Thursday.
The Crusaders struck first with runs in the second and third innings to take an early 2-0 lead. The Owls responded in a big way in the bottom of the third, erupting for six runs on five hits to take control of the game. Junior Matthew Ray delivered the key hit in the inning, driving in two with a double.
MUS added to its lead in the sixth inning with another offensive outburst, scoring six more runs. Freshman Walker Brown highlighted the frame with a two-run double, while senior Gray Nevels and junior Austin Spence each added RBI singles.
On the mound, Brown earned the win in relief, allowing two runs over 2.2 innings while striking out three. Junior Henry Maxwell got the start for the Owls, working into the fifth inning.
The Owls tallied 13 hits on the day, with senior Carter Sayle, Ray, junior Foster Flaherty, Nevels, and Brown each recording two hits. Nevels drove in a team-high three runs, while senior Reid McKnett showed patience at the plate with three walks. MUS also stayed aggressive on the bases, swiping four stolen bases.
The Owls will look to carry the momentum forward as they travel to Houston on Friday.
