The Owls (1-2) picked up their first win of the 2026 season Thursday, defeating MHEA 6-3. The victory was highlighted by strong pitching, timely hitting, and solid defense.
MUS struck first in the bottom of the second inning when senior Gray Nevels delivered an RBI single to center field. While senior Landry Cooper was at the plate, pinch-runner junior Gray Stakem scored on a passed ball, giving the Owls an early 2-0 lead. The Owls extended their advantage in the third inning with a triple from senior Reid McKnett, driving in two runs to make it 5-1.
On the mound, sophomore William Frazee earned the win, allowing just three hits and one run over five and two-thirds innings while striking out six and walking three. Senior Jay Clark provided quality relief, and junior Andrew Lester closed out the game with a save.
McKnett led the offense with a 2-for-3 performance and two RBIs, while sophomore Haynes Kiser stole two bases. Defensively, MUS was flawless, committing no errors, with Nevels making eight chances in the field and highlighting the night by picking off a runner at first base in the seventh inning.
The Owls return to the field this afternoon against Conway (AR), looking to build on the positives from their first win of the season.
