In a historic matchup—the 100th all-time meeting between the programs—the varsity baseball Owls (7-9) held off CBHS to earn a 5-4 victory on Monday at D. Eugene Thorn Field.
Senior Reid McKnett homered for the third straight game, giving the Owls an early lead in the bottom of the first. MUS added two runs in the second inning on an RBI single by junior Doug Suddarth and extended their lead to 5-0 in the third after an error allowed a run to score.
Senior Henry Moak earned the win on the mound, striking out 10 over 6.1 innings while allowing three hits and three runs. McKnett closed the game in relief for the save.
Offensively, Suddarth and McKnett each drove in two runs, while senior Carter Sayle and freshman Walker Brown each recorded a hit. Defensively, the Owls were flawless, committing no errors, with senior Gray Nevels leading the team with 12 chances handled in the field.
The Owls will head to CBHS for the series finale tonight at 7:00 P.M.
