The varsity baseball Owls (5-9) dropped a hard-fought road contest to Marshall Academy, 15-8, on Friday night, despite a big offensive performance from senior Reid McKnett.
Marshall Academy struck first in the opening inning, but the Owls answered in the third when junior Foster Flaherty drew a walk to tie the game at 1-1. The Patriots responded with a big bottom half of the inning, taking a 6-1 lead.
The Owls mounted their best rally in the fifth inning, scoring six runs on four hits. Sophomore Haynes Kiser and senior Carter Sayle each delivered RBI singles before McKnett provided the highlight of the night—a grand slam to left field that brought the Owls within striking distance.
McKnett finished with five RBIs on two hits, while Sayle added two hits of his own. The Owls showed patience at the plate throughout the game, drawing 10 walks, with senior Landry Cooper, Sayle, and Flaherty each earning two.
Sophomore William Frazee took the loss on the mound, while junior Andrew Lester provided relief during the contest.
Marshall Academy was disciplined at the plate as well, drawing 13 walks on the night.
The Owls return to action this afternoon with a road matchup against First Assembly Christian School at 2:00 p.m.
