The varsity track & field Owls battled cold and wet conditions on Friday night at the Bonner Relays at Harding Academy, but the Owls delivered an outstanding performance, winning four events and breaking two school records.
Relay Victories
The Distance Medley Relay team of Noah Hinote, Carson Alexander, Coleman Russell, and Kade McCracken dominated the field, taking 1st place and winning the race by over a minute.
In the 4X800 Relay, Will Hagerman, James Byrd, Kemmons Wilson IV, and Nat Harris IV also secured a 1st place finish, continuing the Owls' strong showing in distance events.
Field Event Highlights
Junior Jackson Halpern earned a 1st place finish in the Long Jump, adding another event win for the Owls.
The Bonner Relays feature a unique format where all events, including field events, are scored as relays—challenging teams to rely on depth and consistency. The Owls rose to the occasion in a big way.
Record-Breaking Performances
In the Discus Relay, Gavin Gatere (1st), Charles Doughtie (2nd), and Ezekiel Redick Jr. (5th) combined for 419 feet, breaking the previous school record set in 1996 by Robert Dow, Matt Stemmler, and Ted Bailey.
In the Shot Put Relay, Gavin Gatere (3rd), Harry Word III (4th), and Allen Halliday Jr. (5th) combined for 133 feet, 6.5 inches, surpassing the school record set in 1994 by Gene Kim, Robert Dow, and Ed Eleazer.
Overall Performance
Despite challenging weather conditions, the Owls showcased their depth, toughness, and competitive spirit, turning in one of their strongest performances of the season.
