The varsity baseball Owls (5-8)Â delivered a dominant all-around performance Tuesday, securing a 15-0 win over Greater Praise Christian Academy. The Owls combined a no-hit effort on the mound with a breakout offensive showing to control the game from start to finish.
MUS jumped out early in the first inning when junior Foster Flaherty doubled to drive in two runs. The Owls broke the game open in the second inning, plating nine runs behind a flurry of hits and disciplined at-bats. Sophomore Haynes Kiser and junior Doug Suddarth each delivered RBI singles, junior Matthew Ray drew a bases-loaded walk, and sophomore Hudson Jacks highlighted the inning with a two-run triple. Junior Elliott Poore added an RBI after being hit by a pitch, while freshman Harris Laughlin and senior Carter Sayle each drove in runs as the Owls built a commanding lead.
The offense continued to roll in the third inning, as junior Andrew Fontenot Jr., Laughlin, and sophomore Wilson Wheat each brought home a run to extend the advantage.
Laughlin led the way at the plate, going a perfect 3-for-3 with a double and multiple RBIs. Jacks added a strong performance, going 2-for-2 with a team-high three RBIs, while Suddarth, Sayle, and Kiser each recorded multiple hits. The Owls finished with 13 hits, drew seven walks, and stole four bases in a well-rounded offensive effort.
On the mound, Flaherty was dominant, earning the win with three hitless innings while striking out eight. The Owls' pitching staff combined to hold Greater Praise without a hit in the game.
Defensively, MUS was flawless, not committing an error, with Kiser leading the way with eight chances in the field.
The Owls will return to action Friday as they travel to Marshall Academy.
