The varsity soccer Owls turned in a strong showing over the weekend at the Southern Coast Cup in Foley, Alabama, competing in three hard-fought matches against quality opponents and moving to 2-2 on the early season.
In the opening match against Liberty Creek High School, the Owls battled back to level the score at 1–1 behind a first-half goal from senior Reid LeMay. Despite the effort, MUS would ultimately fall 2–1 in a competitive contest.
The Owls responded in Game 2 with a resilient performance against Boyd Buchanan. Sophomore Leo Smythe gave MUS an early 1–0 lead before Boyd Buchanan answered to take a 2–1 advantage in the second half. Senior Andy Yambrek evened the score, then delivered again late in the match with the go-ahead goal off a strong pass from senior Nicholas Lee to secure a 3–2 victory.
MUS closed the tournament on a high note with a win over Westminster Schools of Augusta. Junior Sebastian Oh opened the scoring early, and after the match was tied at halftime, senior Reid LeMay found the back of the net on the go-ahead goal off a throw-in from fellow senior Finn Church. The Owls held on for the win to finish the weekend strong.
With a 2–1 record in the tournament, the Owls showcased resilience, timely scoring, and continued growth as the season progresses.
