In front of a large Homecoming crowd, the varsity basketball Owls broke open a close game late in the first half and won handily over former divisional opponent St. Benedict, 62-26, to move to 13-6 on the season.
The Eagles (3-19) were very deliberate early and hit some shots as they pulled within one point at 16-15 with 3:35 left in the second quarter. However, from there, they would score only 11 points the rest of the game as the Owls' defense began to stifle their opponents.Â
Offensively, the Owls attacked inside to take advantage of their size and got out and ran in the second half as they extended a 9-point halftime advantage to 44-21 at the end of the third quarter. By the end, all the Owls played significant minutes in taking the 36-point Homecoming win.
Ten players scored for MUS, led by junior
Jacob Hill's 14 points on 4 for 5 shooting from three-point range. Senior
Bo Echols added 13 points, 9 rebounds, and 2 blocks, and senior
Kendon Leakes had 9 points and 7 rebounds. The Owls outrebounded the Eagles, 47-21, and held St. Benedict to just 20.5% shooting for the game (9-44).
