In only its second true road contest of the season, the varsity basketball squad jumped out early on former division foe St. Benedict and never trailed, ultimately defeating the Eagles, 77-39, to improve to 12-5 on the year.
The Owls were very efficient offensively, shooting over 53% in both halves, and, combined with aggressive defense that forced 13 St. Benedict turnovers, they never were threatened as they led by double figures from the 5:22 mark of quarter 2 on. The defense held the Eagles (2-16) to just 14-42 shooting (33.3%), including just 6-24 from the floor in the second half to blow the game open.
Senior
Ehi Ataga led the Owls in scoring with 16 points, and senior
Kendon Leakes added 12. Eleven Owls scored in the game, and the team had 20 assists on its 29 made field goals.
Other contributors included senior
Montgomery Griffin and sophomore
Levi Johnson, who scored 9 points each, and senior
Bo Echols and junior
John Painter helped with 7 points each.
The Owls now have a week off and next face Briarcrest at home this Friday night to open division play.
