The varsity basketball Owls got the KSA Events Holiday Tournament started right with a 58-41 win over Tuscaloosa (AL) Central High School to advance in the winners' bracket of the event in Kissimmee, Florida.
Four Owls finished in double figures, led by sophomore
Levi Johnson, who had 13 points on 4 of 9 shooting, including 3 for 6 from three-point distance. Seniors
Ehi Ataga,
Bo Echols, and
Kendon Leakes each added 10 points as the Owls had a big advantage inside over the smaller Falcons. The Owls outrebounded Tuscaloosa Central, 38-18, including 16 offensive rebounds. The team also forced 21 turnovers as senior
Montgomery Griffin and junior
Charles Snider each had 4 steals.
The Owls led at the break, 31-21, and they just never allowed the Falcons to get closer than 7 points. Their biggest lead came early in the fourth quarter at 51-32 as the team cruised to the victory.
MUS (8-4) moves into the semifinals of the event and faces Quaker Valley High School (PA) tomorrow morning for a chance to play for a bracket title.
