Despite 18 points from both seniors
Ehi Ataga and
Bo Echols, the varsity basketball Owls fell to undefeated Central, 68-57, before a large crowd at MUS on Ugly Sweater Night.
The Owls and Warriors stayed close throughout much of the first half, and only a run late in the second quarter allowed Central to take a 37-28 halftime lead.
The hosts quickly closed the gap in the third quarter as the game remained a one-possession contest throughout much of the quarter. But Central stayed very composed and handled the Owls' pressure defense well, getting layups and making 9 of 10 free throws to hold the Owls' advancement off to improve to 13-0 on the season.
In addition to their points, Ataga added 8 rebounds and Echols 6 as the Owls had an advantage inside.
Levi Johnson finished with 7 points, and
Kendon Leakes and
Montgomery Griffin both had 5 points.
But Central showed why they were undefeated as they shot 49.0% from the floor and made 9 of 18 three-pointers in addition to their good shooting on the foul line. Additionally, the Warriors had 11 assists, only 6 turnovers, blocked 3 shots as they lead from the second quarter on.
The Owls, now 7-4, are off for Christmas and will next play in Orlando, Florida, to end the 2025 calendar year.
