The varsity basketball Owls used a big second half to break open a close game and claim their seventh win on the season, a 75-45 victory over White Station to close out this-weekend's Grind Session.
MUS (7-3) led by only 5 at the break, 31-26, as White Station stayed close by forcing 8 turnovers and outscoring the Owls at the free-throw line, 6-3. But balanced scoring from the Owls helped them stay in front throughout much of the first half as 8 Owls contributed in the scoring column in that first stanza.
Then in the second half, MUS frustrated the Spartans (1-7) on the defensive end by forcing contested jump shots, and the Owls got their transition offense untracked, shooting 54.3% in the half and hitting 5 three-pointers. The Owls also outrebounded White Station by 15, 42-27, including snatching 14 offensive rebounds, and outscored the Spartans in the second half, 44-19.
Junior
Jacob Hill led the Owls in scoring with 17 points in his first significant minutes of the season after having come back two games ago from injury. Senior
Kendon Leakes added 12 points, and senior
Bo Echols contributed 11 points and 9 rebounds. Senior
Ehi Ataga also had 9 rebounds to go along with his 8 points, 3 assists, and 2 steals.
The Owls now have next week off for semester examinations and will next return to the court Monday, December 22, at home against Memphis Central.
