In the basketball program's 2000th game in the modern era, the varsity Owls overcame a sluggish start and won going away over Union City, 65-47, to improve to 5-0 on the season. The win concluded another successful Jerry Peters Turkey Shootout as the Owls went 2-0 during the annual event.
Having trailed at the end of the first quarter, 16-9, the Owls outscored the Tornadoes, 22-10, in the second quarter as they forced 7 turnovers and outrebounded the visitors, 12-6, to take a 31-26 halftime lead.
In the second half, the Owls held Union City to only 5 field goals as they slowly extended the lead to win going away. Senior
Ehi Ataga led the hosts with 17 points, 4 rebounds, and 4 blocks, and junior
Charles Snider added 13 points and 6 rebounds, including going 3-4 from 3-point range.
The win also marked Coach David Willson's 100th as the Owls varsity head coach in his seventh season back at MUS.
