In the second Nashville game of the season for the Owls, the varsity football team fell at Brentwood Academy, 35-0. The loss drops the Owls to 5-2, 1-2 as they head to Fall Break.
Brentwood Academy took the opening kickoff and needed only 4 plays to get the scoring underway. Two long passes of 25 yards and 48 yards got the Eagles to the MUS 2-yard line, and from there, Larry Sanders II finished the drive. Thomas Bauchiero's PAT gave the hosts the 7-0 lead on their homecoming.
Taking over on their own 25-yard line on their initial possession, the Owls put together an impressive drive. Picking up three first downs, the visitors got into Eagle territory, led by the rushing of QB Maddox Giel and RB Tommie Reed. But ultimately, the drive stalled, and the Owls had to punt from the Eagle 39-yard line. The MUS possession lasted 13 plays and took up 7:17, but it did not result in points.
After the punt Brentwood Academy took over at their 20-yard line, and they tried to establish the run. Sanders II had 6 carries on the drive, and QB Crews Jenkins had 2 completions to get inside the MUS 10-yard line. Then on 1st and goal from the 6-yard line, Jenkins hit WR Kesean Bowman for the touchdown to complete the 13-play, 80-yard possession. BA led, 14-0, with 8:57 left in the half.
The Eagles added another touchdown just 2:26 later. Forcing a quick Owl punt, the Eagles needed only 3 plays to go 45 yards as Jenkins found a wide-open Bowman for the 45-yard score. BA led, 21-0, with 6:31 left in the half.
They would add a fourth touchdown before the half as Sanders II rushed for 31, 20, and the final 2 yards for the score with just 3:47 left in the half. The possession started after the Owls had to punt without earning a first down.
But after that fourth score, the visitors put together another great drive. Four first downs got the Owls to the Eagle 10-yard line, the big play being a 30-yard halfback pass from Jackson Hood to Thomas Higginbotham. But unfortunately, the Owls could get no closer, and a quick 27-yard field-goal attempt by Joshua Wittber as the clock was ticking down was barely wide, and MUS went into the half down, 28-0.
The Owls played almost even football with BA in the second half, putting together two long drives but not finishing those drives with points. First, after an initial exchange of punts, the visitors started at their own 24-yard line. QB Price Renovich hit two passes to Foster Flaherty to get the possession going. Later, facing 4th and 2, Hood picked up the first down at the BA 35-yard line. But the drive stalled as Hood lost 1 yard on another 4th and 2, and BA thwarted the 12-play drive for the Owls that amassed 6:14.
BA rounded out the scoring on the next drive as Sanders II carried the ball on the final 3 plays to score from 14-yards out. With 11:23 left in the game, the hosts led, 35-0, and the running clock began.
MUS did put together one final possession that moved the ball. Renovich hit Palmer Albertine for 9 yards, and then Emmett Tamplin had 2 catches for 11 yards. But ultimately, the Owls had to punt, and BA ran out the clock.
Despite the score, the statistics were not overly lopsided as the Owls amassed 13 first downs, gained 107 yards on the ground, and held the ball for over 30 minutes of the game's 48. But they could not finish drives with points, and the Eagles had several big plays to put the game away.
