Joe Cummings has led the lacrosse program since 2023 and continued its storied history. His 2024 team finished with a record of 14-4 and captured the TSLA state championship, the program’s 15th. He was named TSLA and The Daily Memphian Coach of the Year in 2024. His 2023 squad put together a 17-3 record with an appearance in the state semifinals. In his two seasons leading the Owls, Cummings has coached nine TSLA All-League selections. Drew Clift ’23 was named The Commercial Appeal Boys Lacrosse Player of the Year in 2023, and Hays Prather ’24 was named Tennessee Player of the Year by the National Intercollegiate Coaches Association in 2024. Prior to MUS, Cummings was head coach at Christ Church Episcopal School (SC), where he led the program to two state runner-up finishes and was named USA Lacrosse South Carolina Coach of the Year in 2022. He had a standout playing career at the University of Maryland, where he was a captain and two-time All-American. Cummings was a member of two teams at Maryland that made appearances in the national championship game (2011 and 2012), and he was named University of Maryland Athlete of the Year in 2012.
